On Thursday 23rd February, Wombourne Wives welcomed Ken Marshall , who gave a talk on ‘Drink my Garden’. He was very entertaining and introduced us to the art of wine tasting with wine made the produce grown in his garden. We learned how to recognise the amount of tannin in a wine by using our sense of smell and taste: how to judge the strength of a wine by shaking and twirling it and looking at its legs running down glass (did you know wine had legs?); how to roll a wine between our tongue and roof of our mouth and to recognise if the wines were made from fruits, vegetables or flowers
Great fun and laughter was had by all, tasting gooseberry, redcurrant, blackberry and parsnip wines and then given a choice of whether to drink each taster, or use the spittoons. Guess what most of us chose? At least we had coffee and biscuits to soak up the alcohol before we went home!
I can’t say that Ken has any need to worry about competition from any of our group to take his place as being the only remaining judge for homemade wine competitions in the area.
Meetings take place every 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at The Venerable Bede Hall, Giggetty Lane, Wombourne
Our next meeting on Thursday 9th of March is’ Chadsmoor Tapestries ‘ a talk by Ken’s wife Barbara Marshall, which should be very interesting and new members and visitors are always welcome.
On 23rd March, Karen Van Hoff will be talking to us about ‘A Fashion Designer’s Journey’.
