Detailed below are our Easter services during Holy Week 2017.
Palm Sunday 9th April
Read Matthew 21:1-7
8.00am – Holy Communion
9.00am – Parish Communion at The Venerable Bede
10.30am – Parish Communion
Our two services of Parish Communion will include a procession and the Reading of the Passion
6.30pm – A journey to the Cross
Monday in Holy Week 10th April
7.30pm – Holy Communion at All Saints Trysull
We remember how Mary brings a present to Jesus and how Judas becomes upset at her extravagance.

Tuesday in Holy Week 11th April
7.30pm – Holy Communion at St Johns Swindon
We remember how Jesus wrestles with his fate in prayer and how he finds both strength and reassurance.

Wednesday in Holy Week 12th April
7.30pm – Holy Communion at Holy Cross Bobbington
We remember how during the Passover meal Judas decided to betray Jesus and slips away into the night to meet the priests and their soldiers.

Maundy Thursday 13th April
11.00am – The Diocesan Chrism Eucharist at Lichfield Cathedral
The oils used for healing, baptism and confirmation are blessed and clergy and those licensed to lay ministries renew their vows.
7.30pm – The Eucharist of the Lord’s Supper at St Benedict’s
Our service has three main emphasise
- The washing of feet reminding us of the humility of service.
- The institution of the Eucharist. This is the night on which Jesus took the bread and wine of Passover and gave them a new meaning.
- The Watch of the Passion. After supper Jesus took his disciples to the Garden of Gethsemane and asked them to keep watch as he prepared for his arrest, trial and death. The Sacrament is carried to the Lady Chapel Altar, symbolising Jesus going to the garden and we keep watch with him in prayer.
As a mark of Jesus’ suffering, the church is stripped bare.

Good Friday 14th April
11.00am – The Good Friday Workshop for our younger members at St. Benedict Biscop Church.
12.30pm – The Ecumenical Act of Witness on Windmill Bank.
2.00pm – The Good Friday Service at St Benedict’s
At the time of Jesus last hour we focus on the cross. Quiet prayer is an important part of our service.
There are three main parts to our service
- The dramatic reading of the Passion from St John’s Gospel
- Reflection on and proclamation of the cross.
- The Good Friday intercession.

Holy Saturday 15th April
8.00pm – The Easter Vigil at St Benedict’s
Our service of preparation for Easter Day has three main emphasise
The vigil of readings, psalms and prayers during which we recall Work in history as recorded in the Old Testament.
A rite of preparation for Easter Day when we say sorry for our sin .
The Service of light. A new fire is kindled outside the church from which the Easter Candle is lit and carried into a darkened church proclaiming “The light of Christ”. The light spreads as our own candles are lit.
Easter Day 16th April

9.00am – Parish Communion and the renewal of Vows at Ven Bede
10.30am – Parish Communion with special activities for children, the
Renewal of vows and an Easter Egg Hunt.
