The new floor is now virtually complete, with tiles laid and grouted and the timber flooring sanded down and now being treated. Just some painting and a few other things to be done. We will therefore be open again for our usual 8.00a.m. and 10.30a.m.services on Sunday 2nd April; a warm welcome back awaits you.
With the restoration work at St Benedict’s now in its final stages, the last combined 10.30 am service at the Venerable Bede will take place on Sunday 26th March (Mothering Sunday). The tiling at the front of the church is nearly finished, with the grouting of the tiles to be completed, and the tiling of the central aisle is now underway. The sanding of the wooden floor areas has also commenced; what a difference it all makes.
The restoration and renovation work at St Benedict Biscop Church is progressing well with the area in front of the Chancel now tiled. Grouting of the tiles in this area is underway whilst laying of tiles in the north nave to meet the wooden floor is well advanced.
With the new floor laid and prepared the tiling of it has commenced this week, with the area up to the Chancel steps being the starting point, as these pictures show.
Work at St Benedict’s continues although the stripping of the paint from round the arches has proved more difficult than expected. However sanding down the stonework, mostly by hand, has produced good results.
